Like other students around the country (and the world), Bay Port High School seniors suddenly faced the reality that a traditional, in-person commencement ceremony would no longer be possible because of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Howard-Suamico School District wanted to offer a virtual solution, but it wanted to do so in a way that went beyond the average reading-of-the-names on a grainy webcast. The district and Gillespie Productions partnered to create an emotional opening video that captured the story of loss and perseverance. They then created a virtual experience with a multi-camera setup that made viewers feel like they were watching a live graduation, albeit with speakers in front of an empty gymnasium. The result was a powerful experience for students, families and staff to remember.
